THE WILLIAM TUCKER COLLECTION
In 1624, in the Virginia colony, a child was born to two Africans carried across the ocean from Angola. His name was William Tucker — the first documented African child born in English-occupied North America. His birth is where the written record of Africans in America begins.
Four hundred years later, the name still stands. This collection marks that beginning — origin, passage, and record — designed to be worn out loud.
